Frequently Asked Questions
about Stone-Coated Steel Roofs
How heavy is it?
Stone-coated steel roofs weigh only 1.4 lbs. per square foot, far less than wet wood shakes, less than composition shingles, and 5 to 10 lbs. per square foot less than concrete. You will not need to re-engineer or reinforce your existing roof structure. SteelROCK panels are light enough to be installed over most existing roofs.
Will it break?
Stone-coated steel roof tiles are formed of steel, so breakage is not an issue. They will not break, crack, or de-laminate like many other roofing materials.
Can I walk on my roof?
Yes. Our roofs are strong! When walking on the roof, wear soft-soled shoes, walk on the "nose" of the panels across the roof and in the "pans" when walking up and down the roof.
Will it burn?
Steel doesn't burn. It will protect your home from flying embers even in a firestorm where a stiff wind blows burning particles across your roof.
How good is your Warranty?
This is where SteelROCK Roofing Products really shine! Our LIFETIME limited WARRANTY is the best in the industry! In so many words you are protected from manufacturing defects in both the steel itself AND the surface coating for as long as you own your home.
If you transfer your warranty to the next successive owner, that owner is covered for 50 years from the date the roof was installed. The warranty is non-prorated for 50 years no matter how many times it is transferred. A real selling point for you, and real protection for them! This is a real win-win warranty for all involved. Read other warranties carefully and see what they really say!
Isn't a steel roof more expensive?
The old adage "you get what you pay for" certainly holds true here. Yes, composition roofs are "cheaper" but you'll only pay for a steel roof once. When you sell your house the added value of a SteelROCK stone coated steel roof will more than pay for itself.
How many colors does SteelROCK provide?
There are 10 attractive colors and 10 mediterranean blends that give the appearance of old world Spanish tile and will compliment most every home exterior. See the back cover of our brochure which you can download from our Home Page for examples, but ask your contractor for actual stone coated samples of the tiles before choosing a color for your home. You can also review our tile samples on our "Products" Page.
How do I maintain my roof?
There is little you have to do to maintain your SteelROCK Roof. Perhaps rinsing every few years if your area suffers from a lack of rain but other than that, your SteelROCK roof should remain maintenance free for many, many years to come.
Frequently Asked Questions about
LeafX Gutter Systems
How much rain will the LeafX™ gutter system handle?
Our panels have been tested to handle any rainfall ever recorded, anywhere.
How many inches per hour will LeafX™ handle?
We have tested the panels to handle at least 12” of rain in an hour. We stop there because, in reality, anything beyond several inches of rain in an hour would be truly catastrophic.
Be wary of competitors that claim to handle ridiculous amounts of rainfall. Some will try to use huge numbers to lure you to focus on a product that may have serious deficiencies.
Will it work on roofs with steep pitches?
The Flex Drain allows LeafX™ to adjust to any roof pitch. Standard LeafX™ panels will work on any roof up to a 16/12 pitch. For any steeper pitches, special high water flow panels can be used.
What material is used in LeafX™?
LeafX™ is constructed of 100% .024 aluminum.
What kind of warranty does the LeafX™ gutter protection system have?
We offer a full lifetime warranty that guarantees that your gutters will never clog again. In the rare event that they do clog, we’ll pay to have someone clean them for free.
Can I install the gutter covers myself?
The only way we are able to honor our no clog guarantee is to have our authorized LeafX™ installation professionals handle all of the installation work.
Can squirrels or birds enter and build nests?
No. Since LeafX™ is made of .024 aluminum, animals will not be able to chew through it. In addition, aluminum will not warp or distort over time.
Is LeafX™ nailed or screwed into the roof or fascia?
No. LeafX™ slides under the first row of shingles and is attached to the lip of the gutter with stainless steel screws.
Will LeafX™ install over my existing gutters?
It is designed to go over your existing gutters!
Will LeafX™ change my home's appearance?
The LeafX™ design is low profile. This design, together with the 14 matching color options, is designed to enhance the look of your home, blend in with your roofline, and hide unsightly metal flashing.
How much will the LeafX™ gutter protection system cost?
The cost for installing the system is determined by many variables. System installations require an initial inspection and may require work to be done on the existing gutters. Other factors involve the number of stories on your home which can affect some of the specialized equipment that may be necessary. Finally, linear footage and the condition of the existing fascia and roof can also play a determining role. For information on how to buy our product, call our toll free phone number, or search for an authorized dealer near your location.
Will LeafX™ prevent ice dams?
Ice dams are caused by poor insulation and ventilation. So no, LeafX™ will not prevent …or cause… ice dams. LeafX™ can, however, help reduce the amount of ice build-up in your gutters that can cause gutter seams to split, hangers to loosen, and gutters to pull off the house. Because the ice that used to accumulate in your gutters now goes over the panels, some customers report an increase in icicles. If that is a concern to you, or if you have other questions about ice dam prevention, please call us directly to go over some possible solutions.
Will I need to clean or maintain my LeafX™ gutter protection system?
Maintenance on your system may be little to none at all. Like all manufactured exterior products on your home, LeafX™ will get dirty over time. If you notice a build up of dirt or debris on your system, simply rinse it off with a high pressure nozzle on your garden hose.
